Keyboard Shortcuts

I have always found it extremely painful every time I have to go to the mouse while typing. Windows has a number of keyboard shortcuts that will help ease this problem. I am very sure that once you start using these keys regularly you'll seldom need to use the mouse. This will also help enhance your computer experience.

Here are some of the keyboard shortcuts that you'll find extremely helpful:

  • WINDOWS: Display the Start menu.
  • WINDOWS+D: Minimize or restore all windows.
  • WINDOWS+E: Display Windows Explorer.
  • WINDOWS+TAB: Cycle through buttons on the taskbar.
  • WINDOWS+F: Display Find: All Files.
  • CTRL+WINDOWS+F Display Find: Computer.
  • WINDOWS+F1: Display Help. \
  • WINDOWS+R: Display the Run command.
  • WINDOWS+BREAK: Display the System Properties dialog box.
  • SHIFT+WINDOWS+M: Undo minimizes all windows.

Other use full keyboard shortcuts include:

  • CTRL+F4: Close the current window in(MDI) programs.
  • ALT+F4: Close the current window or quit a program.
  • ALT+SPACEBAR: Display the current window's system menu.
  • SHIFT+F10: Display the shortcut menu for the selected item.
  • CTRL+ESC: Display the Start menu.
  • ALT+HYPHEN: Display the system menu for MDI programs.
  • CTRL+V: Paste.
  • ALT+TAB: Switch to another window by holding down ALT while repeatedly pressing TAB.

Define Your Own "System Keys"

There is an extremely useful tool on the market called WinMapper. This shareware utility allows you to easily define your own systems keys. System keys are a combinations of the Windows key plus any other key that can trigger the execution of any specific program.
